SELECTION
In 2021, Seeds aimed to be an artistic-photographic project showcasing the diversity of cultivated seeds in Brazil. However, from the outset, as we began connecting with the network of small agroecological farmers and engaged in the initial exchanges of heirloom seeds, we were inundated with a remarkable amount of information and knowledge about each species.

As we built our own collection, we encountered a universe of narratives: Stories about flagship corn varieties, which pay homage to the ethnicity that created them, rare varieties of broad beans (Vicia faba) kept under lock and key in household gardens, seeds with remedial properties, nuts that sustain in times of scarcity while also giving rise to immense, age-old forests. Thus, we initiated our selection criteria with the aim of maintaining maximum diversity, considering shape, rarity, coloration, and the cultural significance that each seed carried for its respective guardians.
